Weed Suppressing Membrane
There is a lot of talk around the subject of concreting over flood plains and gardens, with the negative impact this has on water management at times of heavy rain. Where there are large areas of concrete, the surface water cannot soak into the ground, but has to find a way to drain off, sometimes creating channels which erode soil away, creating blockages further downstream. Weed suppressing membrane allows water to pass through into the soil, maintaining the natural balance of wet and dry land. Garden designs often call for an area which is not necessarily flower bed or lawn. Gravel gardens are very attractive, especially when planted with just a few grasses or sedums. Gravel drives and paths are both decorative and functional, as they will alert you to the presence of a visitor, welcome or otherwise. Both gravel gardens and pathways look really good when kept weed free. These weedstop products can be laid over the area you are dealing with then covered with the chosen gravel or decorative stone for an immediate result. Decking is usually lifted above ground level, and there is nothing sadder looking than an area of decking with weeds beneath. Again, the weed suppressing membrane can be laid before the decking is erected, and covered with either gravel or bark for a clean attractive finish to the job. Some beds are tricky to access for weeding, especially shrub beds, so a covering of the weedstop material, with holes easily cut through for planting the shrubs, and a covering of bark mulch creates a really stunning, low maintenance border. Weed suppression rather than weed removal makes for easier gardening.
