Expanding Wooden Trellis
Wooden trellises can be used in this way but are also commonly used together to make a larger area of support. You will have an enormous choice of what to grow on your trellis. For individual plants the less rampant roses and clematis can be good, for large areas the more rampant varieties or honeysuckle with its glorious scent so typical of an English summer or hydrangea petiolaris. If you want fruit try figs (restrict the roots or you will never get fruit) or kiwis on a south facing wall, morello cherry on a north facing wall. If you lack winter interest get a jasminium nudiflorum, the winter flowering jasmine. After two years prune it hard and it will reward you with a mass of bright yellow flowers from October till March.
