Basket Liners

Basket Liners

Ready made pre-formed liners are the easiest way to line your hanging baskets and planters, keeping the compost together and tidy. We offer liners made from a wide variety of materials, offering a choice of finished appearance. Our range of fibre liners presents a collection of environment friendly goods made from recycled compressed paper pulp. Rigid when dry, they will absorb water, and allow it to drain through, ensuring that your plants do not become water-logged. These pre-formed liners all have pop-out holes for easy side planting. The best way to side plant your hanging basket is to fill the basket until the compost is level with the holes. Press the compost down to eliminate air holes. Wrap your young plants in polythene to protect young growth. Gently push the leaves and any flowers through the holes from the inside of the basket. Make sure the root ball is sitting on the layer of compost, then remove the polythene layer. Keep planting till you have filled all the holes with young plants, then tease out the roots, and fill in around the roots with more compost. Firm down gently around the newly positioned plants. Fill the basket to within 5cm of the rim, then plant the top plants, making sure you do not disturb the roots of the side plants. We also offer a range of Natural Liners, made from a blend of recycled plant fibres. This makes a strong and long lasting liner, and is environmentally sound. These liners look good, and offer all the advantages of liners made from other natural materials, namely good drainage, good water retention and good aeration. Coco fibre liners are made from coir, a natural fibre taken from the husks of ripe coconuts. There are several advantages to using coir as a liner material; it can hold a great deal of water, releasing it slowly to allow plant roots to take it up as required. Plus it has good drainage properties, preventing water logging. It is also porous, allowing for good aeration. The organic material has a neutral pH, so is not damaging to the environment. If your previously planted liners are worn out, or if you have a different shaped container, the multi liner is the answer. You can cut this to the shape and size required. This is made from a sisal and jute mix, another environmentally friendly material.
