Handcrafted Patio Planters

Handcrafted Patio Planters

Tom Chambers Handcrafted Patio Gardening Range This attractive range of patio furniture is all made from heavy duty steel and finished in a way that will resist corrosion for many years so that you will enjoy your purchase for a long time to come. All items are hand constructed using traditional skills in our UK factory in Yorkshire. As well as having great looks, this range has been deliberately built to hold larger amounts of compost than many or our competitors’ products so that you can pack a lot of plants into each of the containers and this in turn will mean that your plantings will look established much sooner and that as they fully mature they will be much more impressive and have that professional look which smaller containers can never fully achieve. Aim to plant at least two plants per litre of compost or one plant per inch diameter of hanging basket. Add slow release fertiliser and water retaining crystals to your compost before putting the plants in and always finish off with an inch or so of pure compost as any water retaining crystals become unsightly if on the top. Dead head your plants every two or three days and use a high potassium fertiliser such as Tomorite once a week from mid July onwards. Water both early morning and evening in hot weather. Do all this and your containers will be the envy of all who see them. Containers that are raised off the ground should have some trailing plants at the edge and maybe more upright plants in the middle. You can play with leaf shape and size as well as flower colour and form to get the precise effect you are looking for. phormiums and other coloured strappy plants can look very good in urns and other ground based planters. Be adventurous, be different! Some vegetables and fruit can be grown in patio containers – strawberries and tomatoes are especially popular, but also think of herbs and salads, always good to have near the house. Inventive planting schemes and use of modern coloured varieties can make vegetables a very attractive option.
